Business:

Amy called the meeting to order at 2:05 pm Central time.  The agenda was not modified. The Board summary from the November 7, 2019 call was approved.  Julie Cunningham made the motion and Jennifer Orr Greene seconded.

Treasurer’s Report:

Drew Dehoff reviewed the Treasure’s report.  The Wells Fargo Balance on November 30, 2019 was $123,394.33 and the Paypal balance was $2,555.51.  Total assets were $125,949.74.  Expenses in October were to Go Daddy and Herculiz for web hosting and maintenance fees.    The only liability was Sue’s Avocet Consulting invoice of $5,709.60.    See attached spreadsheet.

Executive Director Report:

The Executive Director Report dated November 30, 2019 is attached and was distributed to the full Board.

ACWI:

Sue reported the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) announced the Advisory Committee for Water Information (ACWI) was being moved to an administratively inactive status until further notice and that all ACWI-related activities should cease.  The U.S. Department of the Interior and the USGS will be in discussions regarding any future options.

Committees:

A joint ICWP all-committee webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Central time to discuss the ICWP Priorities Survey.  A joint committee webinar is being held because there was significant overlap among the committees on several of the topics identified in the survey so the joint webinar will provide an opportunity to discuss the results of the survey and how to incorporate the priorities into the various committee workplans.  The latest version of the survey was sent out before the Board call that showed the grouping of issues by federal agency and by ICWP committees.  Sue also plans to send a summary to the full ICWP membership.

Membership:

Dues payments continue to trickle in.  Illinois (Illinois DNR Office of Water Resources) recently joined and their check came in after the Treasurer’s Report was prepared so we are now $7,000 short of the dues payments that we need for the year.  We still need dues payments from Colorado and Indiana.  Sue reported that she had reached out to Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources and they decided not to renew their ICWP membership.  Brian Atkins had good conversations with Mississippi and Tennessee representatives but both states indicated they were interested in ICWP but could not commit to joining yet.  Barr Engineering pays by calendar year, so they are expected to submit their dues payment in January.  Sue has had discussions with Olsson Associations about Olsson joining ICWP.

Sue reported that West Virginia was uncertain about paying their dues; also, there was discussion about New Jersey and Jen indicated that she would follow up with New Jersey and both Jen and Amy Shallcross will reach out their contacts with the Delaware Geological Survey.

ICWP 2020 Internship Program:

There was some discussion about the Board’s desire to continue the ICWP Internship Program in 2020.  This year, 2019, represented the first year for ICWP to sponsor an internship program and it was recognized as a success.  Some of the discussion involved whether to look at candidates from universities beyond the Washington, D.C. area and Sue also suggested that the committees look at utilizing interns for some of their work.   Sue and Heidi Moltz will work on using the Handshake software to get the internship announcement out to universities.  A motion was made by Earl Lewis to continue with the internship and list the announcement through Handshake; the motion was seconded by Jodee Pring and was approved by unanimous voice vote.

Upcoming ICWP Meetings:

The annual meeting committee consisting of Amy, Drew, Jen, and Rhonda Manning was not able to meet this past month, so they plan to get together with Sue before the next Board call on January 2, 2020.

The 2020 Washington, D.C. Roundtable—week of March 30, 2020

  • This will be a joint Roundtable with the Western States Water Council and the National Water Supply Alliance.  Sue will talk more with Tony Willardson (Western States Water Council) and Dave Mitamura (National Water Supply Alliance) in January.
  • WSWC is taking lead to meet with the Water Subcabinet staff members to have a small group dialogue on December 17.  Sue and Amy plan to participate by phone.
