Improving Future U.S. Drought Assessment (a NASEM report sponsored by ICWP)
The National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) “Improving Future U.S. Drought Assessment” report calls for stronger drought assessment practices as climate change makes drought harder to predict and manage.
Building on tools such as the U.S. Drought Monitor and North American Drought Monitor, the report addresses how shifting climate patterns can weaken current methods and offers strategies to make assessment systems more useful, responsive, and resilient.
ICWP served as a liaison to the study, sharing member perspectives and supporting collaboration among agencies, scientists, observing systems, and affected communities.
